Users suddenly can't login

I had a test user who could log in fine, then suddenly couldn't.

Using the correct login just reloads the login screen. Trying to go to any page after that shows the login screen, but with the new url in the address bar still.

Not sure how I might have messed up the permissions (I'm using advanced).

Even when I create a new user as an Admin, the same thing happens. The super user still works.

I'm hoping this info will make it obvious to someone what I need to adjust. Thanks!

Still having this issue... if not logged in going to the site shows the login screen where the home page should be.

Logging in with an admin account (not the super user) seems to work but also shows the login screen. You can't actually access the site.

The super user can see the site as expected if logged in.

What could this be? How can I fix it? Please help!

can any users see the site at all now? or is it all just a login screen?

is this happening on the home page? If you put the home page in edit mode (when logged in as admin) and click permissions could you take a screenshot of what the permissions grid says?

You just saved me!

Somehow the permissions got wacked and no one was authorized to read (or do anything at all). All empty checkboxes. I checked the appropriate boxes and all seems well again.

Thank you for your help!

I have the same problem. A constant loop on the login page with no error messages. Even when I reset the password, the problem persists. This is with any user and also the admin account. I can't login, even with the admin account. Can anyone help?

So, you can't login even if you use "forgot password" with the admin (super-user) email address? Is this a new installation or did this start happening after the site was fine for a while? Any idea what happened just *before* the problem started? (eg you enabled advanced permissions or made another change/edit to the site)

Thank you so much for replying.

You're right. I'm certain it is a permissions problem. I can't login with any users, but the admin account is not accessible due to a different problem, I have now realized.

Having installed concrete5 using simple scripts, I don't have an email address to log in with. I had been editing the site just fine, but yesterday I actually logged out after I had finished. My site is set up to only allow logins with an email address, leaving me rather stuck.

If there is a way to change this via the filesystem, that would be ideal. I could then login with a username and password only. Is this possible.

Sorry for the confusion. Thanks, again.

Pretty sure all the logins are stored in the database and encrypted with the site config SALT string, so finding and altering them is unrealistic if not impossible.

Doesn't simple scripts have you supply an email address? Have you tried that email address or any of the user email addresses in the Forgot Password feature? Sorry to keep asking that... that's the only recourse I know of.

Barring that, how much would you be losing if you started over with a fresh installation?

And so my stupidity is immortalized!

You were right I had set an email when I installed. Thanks to you I made triple sure. I used phpmyadmin to find the user data, and lo and behold there it was!

Rather embarrassing but a massive relief.

Thanks!

My guess is that EVERYONE in this forum has made similar-grade mistakes at one time or another. Or at least I have, many times! Don't sweat it. Glad you got back on track.

Can someone please help me. I am having the same problem. I created another user with another group. When I try to login with that uname the login page just gets refreshed. When I try to login with my credentials (as admin), I am able to login successfully. Please help....

Chances are very good it's either a permissions issue (that user or group doesn't have permission to view that page) or you're mistyping the login credentials.

Check the permissions for the page in question.

You can also try logging in as admin and then "sign in as user" through Dashboard > Users & Groups > Edit User (click on the user's username in the list of users). If you login that way and can't see the page, the permissions need to be changed to include that member and/or group (or just "registered users").

By the way, some themes don't show login errors (eg wrong password) on the login page. So we can't necessarily rule out an invalid user/pass combo.
