Edit button and dashboard only show up using IE9 not with latest CHROME upon login

Prior to this some files were corrupted on my site and the site admin put the site files back to their state backed up 5 days ago
error messages stopped and I can edit using IE9.
It seems I am not the only one who has problems with the edit or dashboard not showing up on login - how can this be avoided?
